Tech Collider

Corporate Marketing Assets Project

Project Overview

This project was completed as part of an internship with BCIT's Tech Collider. The space would be a hub for industry professionals and students training to join the tech industry to both showcase and learn about various technologies, such as AR, VR, & 3D modelling and printing. The broader goal of the project was to create content for the purposes of marketing this new space. This would include:

I worked with teammate Eunhye Jang as part of the graphics team for this project. My role was that of a graphic design intern, and primarily revolved around the creation of these assets.

Due to the space's desire to promote new technologies, we decided to lean into the augmented and virtual reality tech that the space wanted to promote in all of our assets as a graphics team. This led us to develop a set of 3D assets and a consistent shader that we could use to augment some of the photos, and motion graphics in the video.

Tools Utilised

  • Fujifilm XT-3
  • Blender
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe After Effects

Process — Photo Package

As the space was entirely new, we were to create photos that would serve as the foundation of a sort of 'stock photo package' of the space. This required the photos to be:

  • adaptable to various marketing use cases
  • showcase the various aspects of the space

As part of the graphics team, I therefore was heavily involved in the shooting of, and processing of the photos that we took of the space.

Process — Promotional Video Motion Graphics

My role within the video half of the project was primarily in the creation of motion graphics for the video. This was broadly broken up into 2 parts:

  • 3D animated graphics (done entirely in Blender)
  • purely text-based motion graphics (done in Adobe After Effects)

All assets created were handed off to my teammate Eunhye to be edited into the final version of the video and uploaded online.

Takeaways

My biggest takeaway from this project was one of being adaptable, and willing to pivot as the project needs change. This allowed me to remain productive throughout the duration of the project, and consistently work toward to broader project goals even while the exact nature of the required deliverables evolved.

All in all, my goal with this project (as with most others) was to create content that best serves the needs of the project. This underlying principle of mine pushed me to do extensive research, and spend the time necessary to create the effect that we wanted for the story we were trying to tell. This was a tech space, and we wanted to have that identity consistently shown through all the assets we created. This experience has reinforced that patience in creating assets that served the needs of the project, rather than rushing through the design and production process, will always be the better decision, and ultimately enabled me to create assets that I can both be proud of and that would be well received by the project stakeholders.
